2021 SHAA Live session Schedule

Live sessions are included in your registration. If you wish to attend live events, you will receive an email with a registration link 14 days prior to convention. The link will remain open until 24 hours ahead of each live event.  Live sessions will be hosted by Zoom so please ensure you have Zoom capabilities set up ahead of your event. We look forward to having you join us and our speakers for these live sessions.

NOTE:  ALL LIVE SESSIONS WILL BE RECORDED AND UPLOADED FOR VIEWING AFTER CONVENTION IN THE CELL LIBRARY IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND PER ASHA REQUIREMENTS

March 4th

Kickoff Event with Board Members

Board members will be available to kickoff our SHAA Convention for 30 minutes. If you have questions or are looking to get involved further with SHAA this would be a great time to talk with current and future board members.  This session is not for CE credit so it will not be recorded.

March 5th

School Affairs Meeting

Are you a school based SLP or audiologist?  If so, join our Councilor for School Affairs and other SLPs from across the state to discuss current issues facing our schools. Share ideas and suggestions with SLPs that work closely with our school based population.  This session is not for CE credit so it will not be recorded.

March 8th

SHAA Annual Business Meeting
SHAA Executive Board Members

Join us for the Annual SHAA Business meeting where Executive Board Members will report on the state of the association.  Newly elected board members wil be introduced as we prepare to transition from our 2019-2021 Executive Board to our 2021-2023 Executive Board.

Q&A Session on "Alabama State Department of Education Updates"

"The Antiracist Ally: Tackling Systemic Racism Through Awakened Critical Consciousness and Commitment to Inclusivity"
Sucheta Kamath, CCC-SLP, MA

This is a live session that will be for CE credit. Sucheta Kamath will explore what it means to become an “anti-racist ally” SLP/AuD. Student Track:
Each year our students have a day of sessions. The following sessions are for student attendees and will not be for CE Credit. Anyone attending the convention may attend these sessions but be aware that they are not available for continuing education hours. 

8:00-10:00 am
“Effective Interviewing”
Sharon Lovoy, SPHR
Sharon Lovoy is a training facilitator, executive coach, keynote speaker and intervention specialist in high stakes organizational challenges and will be training the students on effective interviewing. Though it is not for CE credit, this session would be beneficial for anyone considering a change in employment who is interested in brushing up on interview skills. This session is not for CE credit so it will not be recorded. 

10:00 am-12:00 pm 
"You’ve Almost Earned Your Degree! What’s Next? Preparing for Your Future as a Speech-Language Pathologist"
Mary Ray-Allen, MEd, CCC-SLP

Students will gain valuable knowledge and insight into preparations for landing a Clinical Fellowship position. This session is not for CE Credit so it will not be recorded.

3:00-4:00 pm
Student Panel
A broad range of professionals will serve on this panel discussion. SLPs from a variety of settings, populations, and career stages will be available to answer your questions about graduate school, CF, typical days, career paths, developing specialty areas, and moving into administration/leadership roles. This Q&A session is not for CE credit so it will not be recorded.
