Audiology and Speech Language Pathology Interstate Compact
(ASLP-IC)
April 2021
SHAA is pleased to announce that as of April, 2021 the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) has been enacted into law in ten states. Alabama was the 7th state to pass this legislation. The compact has now officially secured enough members to activate and establish the ASLP Compact Commission. The other states included in the initial compact are as follows: Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Carolina, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. An SLP and an Audiology representative from the ABESPA Board will be a part of the commission which sets up the rules and bylaws for this compact. Once the compact is fully operational, hopefully by the summer of 2022, licensed Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists will be able to apply to use this privilege in person and through telehealth in other ASLP-IC states without having to hold a license in that state. SHAA is proud that our members, board, and lobbyist were part of the team that helped get this important legislation passed. Be on the lookout for more information in the future.
